Full Review: Shoreline Lake

The entrance to Shoreline Park that is closest to the lake is at the end of Shoreline Blvd.  You will pass through the gates and kiosk but there are no fees to enter or park. Within this park, there is a golf course, two restaurants, the historic Rengstorff House and gardens.   The area is home to many migrating and local birds so if you are a birdwatcher, please bring your binoculars to use while you are along the shore and at the lookouts.  This is also a great place to bring your camera for nature photos.  The trails are shared by people walking, bicycling, rollerblading and running.  No dogs are allowed on the trails around the lake.

Follow the one lane road past the kite flying area and dog park for about half a mile until you reach a sign that says Michaels (one of the restaurants) to the left or bear right to go to the Lakeside Cafe/Sailing where there is a parking lot in front of the lake and aquatic center.  If this lot is full another option is to park in the Michaels restaurant parking lot.  Both lots are free and have no time restrictions.

You may also find people playing canoe polo (combination of kayaking, basketball and water polo).  They also offer private and group windsurfing, sailing and kayaking lessons.  You can also launch your own non-motorized boat for a small fee ($6 for sailboats, $5 for all other boats).

There is a paved path that runs around the Shoreline Lake perimeter for about one mile.  There are many local and migrating birds to see around the lake including herons and grebes.  There are benches where you can sit to view the wildlife and take a rest.  Many people set up blankets and picnic on the grass along the path on weekends.
