California Nursery Historical Park (Fremont)

The California Nursery Co. was founded in 1884 by John Rock.  It grew to become the largest retail nursery west of the Rockies. The park hosts a variety of trees, a Japanese and Rose garden, fruit orchard, an 1835 Vallejo Adobe as well as other historical exhibits.  It is a great place for history buffs, garden lovers and horticulturists.

Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve (Oakland)

The visitor center has many indoor and outdoor displays and real samples of volcanic rock and other area geology. A self-guided brochure is available that you can use on the volcanic Trail, which contains most of the stops on the self-guided volcanic tour. There are about ten miles of trails including a trail leading up to Round Top (elevation 1763 ft.) that is made up of lava and volcanic debris left over from a 10-million-year-old volcano. There is a bathroom and drinking fountain by the visitor center.
