Touchy-Feely Turtles Snakes & More!

Today we took a multisensory educational walk with a group of visually impaired persons along Stevens Creek at McClellan Ranch Preserve, a protected area of importance for wildlife including a variety of insects. On our leisurely walk, we learned lots of interesting facts about three types of related insects: crickets, grasshoppers and katydids. We heard their sounds, tried to figure out the differences among them and learned how their sounds are made. At the end of our walk, we enjoyed a social picnic lunch. After lunch, we had another adventure, a one-hour hands-on experience with the box turtles, Madagascar hissing cockroaches and gopher snakes as well as other sensory stations at the Environmental Education Center. Thank you to Valley Water for their support of this special program!
