Historic Tour of the Rengstorff House
The Rengstorff House circa 1864 is Mountain View’s oldest historic house and is one of the finest examples of Victorian Italianate architecture on the West Coast. It was built by Henry Rengstorff who grew up in Germany and was lured to California by stories of the Gold Rush. Near where the house stands today, Rengstorff built a ship landing that played a significant role in the economic development of the Peninsula. We will take a one hour tour of the home to learn about the history of the Rengstorff family and what life was like in the Victorian era. After the tour, we will have an outdoors group brown bag (bring your own) lunch overlooking Shoreline Lake. Space is limited so reserve your spot now. Photo by Anne Ferguson.
Vistas of La Honda Creek Preserve
This preserve has grown from 255 to more than 6,100 acres and has gone through multiple land stewardship projects to improve the wildlife habitat, allow for grazing and easier public access. Our 3.5 mile moderate hike will take us to upper La Honda Creek, where we will travel through forest and redwoods that is by permit-only. We will walk up to a vista point that has panoramic views of the ocean and the Santa Cruz mountains. During our trek, we will learn about the threatened species that make their home in this preserve. This special program is hosted in partnership with Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District. Photo by Anne Ferguson. Transportation from Saratoga CA and picnic lunch are included.
