ITINERARY
Expert-led Redwoods Walking Tour
This morning, we head to Anthony Chabot Regional Park where we take an easy, cool walk in the redwoods along a creek. There will be an option for an easy shorter walk. We take our time on the three-mile easy (200 ft elevation gain) loop route, pass a sunny and grassy meadow and shady areas with new growth redwoods, and stop along the way to learn from our Save the Redwoods expert guide about their new projects.

Traditional Afghan Cuisine for Lunch
Afghan cuisine is influenced by Persian, Central Asian and Indian cuisines because of cultural ties. The cuisine is halal or “permissible” which means it is prepared with strict rituals, rules and cleanliness standards in accordance with Islamic dietary laws. For lunch, we visit a traditional, family-run Afghan restaurant that serves up savory family recipes. Choose from mantu (dumplings stuffed with seasoned beef and topped with lentils and yogurt), borani banjan (sliced sauteed eggplant with tomatoes and yogurt sauce) served with rice and salad (vegetarian option) and grilled chicken salad (gluten-free).

Sulfur Creek Nature Center Walking Tour
After lunch we have an expert-guided walking tour of the Sulfur Creek Nature Center that serves as a wildlife rehabilitation and education facility. It is home to many native animals that were injured or orphaned. They have permanent resident animals such as a red fox, coyote, bunnies and owls and other birds of prey. We will learn about the important work they do, the outdoor animals and meet two ambassador animals. After our tour, we will have time to visit the indoor interactive exhibits that include a global biodiversity exhibit, as well as live animals including different snakes, tarantulas, turtles, newts, lizards and more!

Before heading home, we stop for organic ice cream with unique (and regular) flavors such as berry swirl, honey lavender, rose, mint chip, saffron pistachio, salted caramel, almond coconut, banana walnut, chocolate Aztec and more to tickle your tastebuds! Ice cream is not included.
