Walking Tour of Walnut Creek

Do you know how the city of Walnut Creek got its name? It was settled by Americans in 1849 during the Gold Rush and was named for the abundance of walnut trees in the area. We start our day by breaking into two groups for a leisurely, 90-minute guided walking tour of Walnut Creek's city sidewalks which brings to life the 1800 to 1900s, exploring landmarks that reflect the community's agricultural, commercial, and cultural heritage. Learn about the influence of the Miwok triblets, Spanish explorers, the development occuring in the 1800s and visit the sites of Walnut Creek's famous soda and ice cream shop, merchantile store, the city's first cinema, the post office and more! Homestyle Peruvian Lunch

For lunch, we enjoy a lunch bursting with flavors of Peru. Recipes are inspired by the chef’s mother and grandmother. The chef uses organic and traditional ingredients such as sweet potato, carmelized onions and plaintains. There are vegetarian and gluten-free options. Traditional steak, plantains, pulled pork and sweet potato grilled to perfection

Historic Mansion and Museum Tour

After lunch, we visit an historic home at Shadelands Ranch which was built in 1903 by Hiram Penniman. We will split into two groups for our expert-guided tour of the garden and home. We will learn about the home's architecture, artifacts and its former residents. The home is full of period furniture and decor, much of which is original to the house - even Mr. Penniman's shaving mug that is by his bathroom sink! On the walls, there are a lot of large aerial photos of Walnut Creek throughout the last century. Inside the Shadelands Historic Home
